IN Africa as elsewhere, those who grovel to those ‘above’ show no respect for those ‘below’.

WHAT is seen as scandal in this country depends mostly not on what is done but who does it.

IT is fashionable for governing politicians to want more guns and bombs. It is not fashionable to explain, credibly, why.

WHEN politics changes, but key politicians have not yet figured out what this means, do the people gain or lose?

POWER does not need to plot when it pushes most people to the margins. It need only keep up its daily routines.

WE are often told that this country cannot afford migrants from other countries. The truth is that it cannot afford not to have them.

WHAT will it take to get this country to take notice of poverty and inequality again?

CLAIMING that hate is complicated does not explain it. It justifies it.

SOMETIMES we are reminded of the price the country pays because those who run it want to make apartheid non-racial. The reminders are usually ignored.

IF you rely on legacy media for your news and follow what politicians and pundits say, you
probably have not heard of Mokoena Letsie. Or of at least two dozen other people who were, like him, murdered for exercising their constitutional rights.
